Regular visits to the beach are good for the soul and body. Walking on the sand massages and exfoliates the feet. The sound of the waves draws life’s stress out of the body and mind and into the sea. The sun creates vitamin d in the body. It is a place to just relax. The beach is now almost synonymous with vacation. It is a place to meet with friends, a place to get away from friends, a place to nap, play frisbee, play catch, swim, float, basically a place to come marinate and soak up everything. Sunsets, as we all know, are the most beautiful seen from the beach. This list of great reasons to love the beach can continue for much longer. Maybe it should go longer. Let us know what is on your list of reasons to love Destin’s beaches.
For thousands of years quartz from the appalachian mountain range has been breaking down and slowly working its way south, down the Apalachicola River. Once meeting the western current flow in the Gulf of Mexico it deposits itself east of Panama City Beach to the Alabama coastline creating the Emerald Coast. Only a handful of places in the world have such perfect conditions to create this kind of beauty. The pure quartz deposited along the shore mixed with the clear water of the Gulf of Mexico makes the color that draws the gaze of anyone lucky enough to visit Destin. Aside from walking to the beach from your condo or hotel, the Whale’s Tail beach in Miramar has it all. They have everything from an incredibly fun water park with a slide, climbing iceberg, a trampoline and much more. They have Kayak rentals, umbrellas, sailboats, parasailing, a restaurant, bar, and all the beach itself offers.
In writing this post I am finding the beach is one of the easiest to write about. It has such a draw I feel writing about its draw is pointless. We all know why we love it so come on and soak up the fun. Maybe changing direction and giving some fun facts about the beach might keep you reading. Did you know that roughly 25% of Americans go to the beach every year? I cannot imagine the world wide number. Did you know that 80% of all sealife lives nearshore along the beach. This provides us nature enthusiasts with a good chance to see some of Destin’s biodiversity. Speaking of biodiversity; the ghost crab is what you see people searching for on the beach after the sunsets. This crab is fun for the kids to chase and catch if they are quick enough. These little crabs can move at speeds up to 10 miles per hour! Their holes are dug at a 45 degree angle and go down to about 4 feet. They are found all over the world’s sandy beaches and are unique in the fact that they can store oxygen and breath on it for up to 6 weeks. These are just a few things about the Destin’s beaches that contribute to the overwhelming draw created by our wonderful beaches. Come visit, see what you like best about it.
